into a daly city neighborhood and brought the hill with it. mud filled streets and built a disgusting wall around several cars. concerned police officers ran from door-to-door to wake up the neighborhood. >> they ran at 5 in the morning several times and i woke up what is going on. they are like there's a mudslide you have to evacuate. >> reporter: members of the wong family had no idea how long they would be out of their home they packed two days worth of clothing and tried to navigate through the mud and water at 5:00 in the morning with suitcases. >> they said there's an evacuation center across the street from our house we couldn't get there because of the mud. >> reporter: when the sun came up she saw her car halfway covered in mud, sinking by the minute. >> it makes me want to cry it was my first car. >> reporter: after they stopped the water authorities decided to keep eight homes evacuated because of concerns the hillside could give way. the victoria family left at 5:00 and told not to return. >> i was first in shock, secondly, afraid didn't know what was going on. >> reporter

scene. behind me you can see in the building still throughout san francisco city hall flashing lights from the fire alarm which are still going off more than an hour and a half after this call came in. now we have video that was shot a short time ago. you will see light smoke which filled the rotunda as well as the first floor. the fire department brought in fans for ventilation. an electrical panel in the basement blew up and exploded triggering a sprinkler system which then filled a portion of the basement of city hall with about an inch of water. at the time there was a reception going on for green build. that's a green trade show. those people were evacuated. >> we had an electrical explosion in the basement in the electrical room. pg&e just arrived. there was minimal smoke throughout the building. there was a high voltage area, so we can't get anybody inside there until we get the power cutoff. >> it was a calm scene. the alarms went off and the lights were flickering. they asked people to exit the building. >> you saw smoke at that point? >> i never saw smoke until we got

westbound 580. >>> following breaking news out of daly city, water main break forcing evacuations happen clayton court near hillside park where we find amy hollyfield with the latest on the mess. >> reporter: what i'm standing in front of is gross and a big deal. this isn't even the half of it. you've got to see the pictures we have on tape they blow this away. look at all this mud that has come gushing into this neighborhood it has impacted cars, blocked streets, there's a wall of mud on one of the blocks so high we can't drive our trucks through so we can't get to the source of the problem. we were told when one of the water officials arrived he stood and looked at it in awe and even uttered an expletive. unlike anything anyone has seen. they weren't sure what they were dealing with, maybe a water main break. now they've identified there's a makeshift reservoir on top of this hill above hillside park where residents get their water it seems that has leaked out first a gush and a lot of water now it appears the tank may be empty because it is trickling now the gush is over. now i

17th and south van ness it will be busy shortly a city worker is trying to repair the signal box, he says the repairs are going to take hours maybe until noon. right now there is nobody out here directing traffic. we've heard horns and people getting a little upset with people who are not taking their time going through thin section. that began westbound 80, chp saw a driver who was speeding, weaving and nearly hitting construction workers then on to 15th, that's the video, the vehicle being chased jeep suv, hit a parked vehicle which hit a person on a bicycle. the person on the bike seriously injured, you see the damage, the rider taken to the hospital. again, serious injuries the vehicle being chased was going the wrong way down 15th street. now look at video from 17th and south van ness a short time ago. the crash took out the signal box here making this intersection uncontrolled. the vehicle stopped there, also knocked part of a streetlight down. the driver of the jeep taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. we were told that the driver is being charged with dui, hit-and-run

daily city, rain on the way, folks are trying to shore up a hillside, weakened by a water main break that flooded the streets. live tonight, that hill may not be able to take more water. >> well, right now, there is nothing to be done to the city says it wants to wait until after the storm. but... crews just focused today on erosion control and started early this morning. shoving back mounds of dirt, then laying hey bale as long the park, they're pretty sure that will keep it away from streets and homes. they're digging to clear the storm drain inside of park. idea to divert the water inside of the storm drain. this is the scene yesterday in this neighborhood, mud was everywhere after a water pipe broke sending 45,000 gallons of water down the hill. several cars were stuck in the mud. >> we've got rain coming and we're less concerned about landslide issues and more concerned about rains. >> city engineers say neighbors have nothing to worry about. a plan to permanently deal with that hillside is expected to be discussed later in the ç work crew arrived at 6:30 in the morning. crews

chp and new information from city workers. looks like it is not going to be until noon before the lights go back on at 17th and south van ness that is going to be a problem, nobody is out here directing traffic. they've flares out now, i've seen people come through at 30 miles an hour, reason that we have in problem is because the signal box got knocked over at the end of an incident that began 2:00 this morning on the on-ramp to i-80 at 4th street. next, according to the chp that on-ramp was closed that got their attention so did the speeding, weaving, as you look at these picture the incident took five minutes, the jeep that they were chasing up to speeds of 55 miles per hour, slammed into a car which hit a bicyclist. chp not sure if the bicyclist was on the bike or walking the bike, that bicyclist was taken to the hospital, checked out, minor injuries, probably released by now. now take a look at where ended where i am a short while ago, 17th and south van ness, jeep hit another vehicle in this intersection which in turn hit the signal box sheering it off. the driver of the jee

forecast this week that means crews will be back in a daly city neighborhood this morning. yesterday a water pipe broke and flooded several streets around lausanne avenue with water and mud. amy hollyfield is there live. >> reporter: it looks so much better out here. it is amazing. they still have work to do. this time yesterday we were standing in mud, quite an improvement this morning. they spent all day yesterday working on cleaning up this neighborhood. they were shoveling mud and hauling it out and taking it to a recycle place in brisbane. four blocks of this neighborhood were coated in mud after a pipe broke at 4:25 in the morning that released 45,000 gallons of water. it was rushing into this neighborhood it brought the hillside down with it and a lot of mud. now they are worried about the rain in the forecast later this week. today they will be working onshoring up this hillside park. >> the next three days we are going to be winterizing the park which means putting bales of hay out to absorb moisture, mud and debris, sandbags and everything that we can to secure the park. >> r
